The second vocal technique we will focus on is the use of intonation. Without intonation, if your vocal delivery is too monotone, you are likely to lose audience attention quickly.

 

However, effective use of intonation can help you sound both interesting and confident to those listening. There is a definite technique to doing this. Listen to and read the following extract:

Notice that falling intonation is used at the end of sentences. This is because in English falling intonation communicates certainty and confidence. For variety, however, I have some rising intonation in the middle of sentences, usually before a short pause.
