The first vocal technique we will focus on is the use of stress. In English, it is natural to place an extra emphasis on some words in a sentence. In a presentation, you should do this to both emphasize ideas and help separate your speech to make it easier to hear. Listen to and read the following extract:

Notice how stress has been used on sequencer language 3, first, next, finally to help emphasize the structure. Also note that you and your has been stressed in order to underline that the presentation content is applicable for each individual audience member.

Now try reading the extract, placing considerable stress on the selected words.
