And how did we reach our targets?…… Well, let me tell you…

The second of our advanced techniques to grab your audience’s attention is the use of rhetorical questions. A rhetorical question is one that the presenter asks, and then the presenter answers.

It has an effect because when your audience is losing their concentration, they stop listening to the content of your words, but they can still hear your voice. Use this process:

1. Question

2. Pause

3. Answer

1. Question

Ask your question with exaggerated question pronunciation.

2. Pause

Remain silent for 4 or 5 seconds while making eye contact with the audience. People who have been losing interest will notice the intonation and pause and will wonder if they should make some kind of response. They may even feel some nervous tension in the silence.

3. Answer

You answer the question and break the nervous mood. The audience will feel relieved and you have peaked their attention!
